What is a good way to sound proof my jalousies so when i want to crank up the sound a little while watching my movies i don't be come a nuisance to my neighbors? I got a large window with tinted and frosted glass jalousies facing the walkway of the apartment. This window is approximately 4' wide and 2.5' high and has a cloth drapery installed over it. Normally, i leave this window shut, but even with it shut i am able to hear conversations from my appt when i am in the hallway. I don't want to completely seal up this window (e.g., install a plexiglass over it or silicon compounding the gaps between jalousies, etc.) because I may want to still use it, since having it open sometimes allow good air circulation throughout my unit.

so, what do you recommend?

idea i have:

1) get thicker drape?

Yeah, I'm not sure what a jealousy is either, but it sounds like an apartment. Generally you're not gonna be able to do much to help isolation without getting into construction.

But, are you more concerned with this window to the hallway? You may be able to seal that off a bit and improve sound transmission through there (since it'll be the path of least resistance right now). However, you won't have much success (if any) trying to isolate sound and vibration through walls unless you get into construction.

Could you attach plexiglass using adhesive velcro strips? That way you could remove the plexiglass if you wanted to use the window and not damage the apt.
