It's too late now--after would be better. Also, it's never really a good time to buy a Dell. Why would you want a Dell?

Now they are offering double memory and 200 off. I also heard dell is good. I am too tired to assembly one by myself. And basically the difference isn't that much. So...

By the way, I don't know which one I should go with the 1.9G or 1.8G? There are $100 difference on the price.

Thanks a lot,

dodo

I doubt you'll see a difference between 1.8 and 1.9... put that $100 into a better video card instead. (I really recommend the Geforce3 Ti200 upgrade! I bought my system two weeks before the upgrade became available...) 🙁

And for pre-made systems, it's hard to beat Dell. No, they're not perfect, but I couldn't have built my own machine with this much software and cool case for the price they sell for. Combine that with the option of a purchase plan and you have a good setup.

Dell uses Intel processors and chipsets, though. I recommend ABS Computer, they sell Athlon XP systems with Via KT266A chipsets. Also, Cyber Power System is really good, but make sure you configure with the Shuttle AK31 and not the MaGiK based one. If you want to get a really fine machine, then use GamePC.

Maybe he wants something with a really good warranty and service if or when it sh!ts the bed. Dell is one if not the best in the area of customer service.

ABS Computer and GamePC offer top-notch warranties, and better machines.

Your posts are turning up everywhere.

Anyway, get the 1.8Ghz (if you must have a P-4) and put the extra $100 into a better video card and/or more RDRAM memory (you AREN'T getting SDRAM with your P-4, are you? . . . if so, you'll find precious little difference between 1.4 and 1.9Ghz in performance).

*cough*NEF*cough*...

As much as you poo-pooh them, there's nothing wrong with these Dell machines. I'm still surprised by how well it was put together.
I'll say it again:

I could not have put together my own machine, added the software, and keep it serviced for the amazing price Dell put out. Combine that with the very nice case they used... no- there's no way I could get all that for $1200 Canadian. Including EVERYTHING.
If you don't want to put together your own system, or you're simply happy with the setup Dell puts together for a low-price special, go for it! There's very little reason not to...

Most of the poo-pooh folks have simply never owned one. I stress most, not all. There's always someone who just wasn't happy. I was almost one of them until I figured out how to make all 4 of my IDE drives to work. 😉

There's nothing expressly wrong with Dells, but they use Intel processors and chipsets, and they overcharge for their high-end systems these days. Finally, they're starting to try to shove either AOL or Dell.net (MSN) down your throat, which I find offensive.

When is the best time to buy a dell system?
The time when there is a price error + good promotion offers such as free cdrw plus free shipping.
Any time other than that is not a good time to buy a dell system.
