As much as you poo-pooh them, there's nothing wrong with these Dell machines. I'm still surprised by how well it was put together.
I'll say it again:
I could not have put together my own machine, added the software, and keep it serviced for the amazing price Dell put out. Combine that with the very nice case they used... no- there's no way I could get all that for $1200 Canadian. Including EVERYTHING.
If you don't want to put together your own system, or you're simply happy with the setup Dell puts together for a low-price special, go for it! There's very little reason not to...
Most of the poo-pooh folks have simply never owned one. I stress most, not all. There's always someone who just wasn't happy. I was almost one of them until I figured out how to make all 4 of my IDE drives to work. 😉 >>
There's nothing expressly wrong with Dells, but they use Intel processors and chipsets, and they overcharge for their high-end systems these days. Finally, they're starting to try to shove either AOL or Dell.net (MSN) down your throat, which I find offensive.
