I want a second notebook for hazardous travel. What is a good thinkpad from the late 1990's? I used to have a 760xl which was fantastic, but heavy at 8lbs.

Looking up the 600 series now. Is it the 600e? Also, I am going to max out the ram and all that. I am rather excited.

Thinkpad T-series. Rock solid from the start. We have a bunch of T22's at work and they still work great.

I have heard that the Older Thinkpads dont have touchpads but instead they have a nipple mouse thingy instead. Is this correct?

Nipple mouse thing, aka Trackpoint, is standard on all Thinkpads I've seen. I'm on an R31, a 2 year old model, and it has the Trackpoint. I saw IBM demoing some in the fall that had both the nipple and the pad though.

Thats the only thing that bothers me about Thinkpads. I prefer the pad over it that is when i would be using it. Most of the time i would hook up my notebook m$ mouse anyways.

try getting a ibm t2x series. the t20, t21, t22, and t23 were probably one of the best laptops ever made. even better quality than the new ibm t series

I am actually on a T21 right now. I got it used from the IBM site for $700. I overpaid, but I got it when I was about to turn in my thesis and my other laptop died. I needed something immediately. The T21 is a great machine, but IBM used equipment switched out the hard drive for a ridiculously noisy one. I have pretty much given this one to my girlfriend.
