What is a good replacement for DLink DI-524?

OK, I have now had 2 DI-524s go bad, and I think Dlink is going to substitute another model FINALLY!

Is there a suitable model that will replace that one? I just need static DHCP and... thats about it. Obviously it needs to be near the same price as the di524.

Any thoughts?

A used WRT54G can be found for under $30. Can be upgraded to 3rd party firmware on versions earlier than 5. I had a DI-524 that I got for $30 for traveling and returned it because of all the reported failures and picked up the Linksys used. YMMV of course.

The DLink DI-524 was the worst router I ever had. My first Netgear (metal box) router ran for four years without a single reboot. The DLink DI-524 would barely run 24 hours, just sitting there, with near-zero traffic.

DLink is gonna replace it. I am currently using a wrt54GC linksys and it has not rebooted ot anything in a couple of weeks. I may just stick with it, as I dont need more wireless range.

Is the DI 624 any better?? (bug free-ish)

I have an Airlink 802.11g router that is, supposedly, a sister of the DI-624. It seems "OK", but I have to reboot it occasionally to get it to link wirelessly with my laptop or Axim. But the Airlink uses modified firmware, so it's hard to know if it's representative of its DLink sister. It DOES act as a switch for my Vonage PAP2 modem, and works perfectly as a wired switch.

I have several clients that use Linksys WRT54G routers for their business, with up to 10 WiFi-client PCs, without EVER having to reboot.

I've been using the DI 624 for about two weeks now, and I have hard zero issues with it so far. This is my first wireless router, so take my min review with a grain of salt. :)

Seriously though; I was afraid to buy one due to all the negative reviews on damn near every wireless router sold on Newegg. Ended up going with one of the D-Link laptop kits, that includes the DI-624. So far, its been flawless.

It seems these wireless routers are the luck of the draw; there are good ones out of a batch.. and there are bad ones.
