my enermax 431W is loud as shite. any suggestions for a quiet PS, something in the 430W range?

anyone have the enermax model with the manual fan control? is that useful, or just a pain? i was thinking of a vantec stealth, but just wanted some expert opinions.

For me, it about any quality PS that can accept a Panaflo 🙂

Agree. Just modify the enermax you have. This website silentPCreview will have all the info you need, or on which new ones are the quietest, if you want to buy a completely new powersupply.

I swapped the noisy speed controlled Adda fan on my Channelwell 420 with a Panaflow low (take off the ps cover, unplug the old fan and remove the four screws holding it, replace with Panaflo, done.) I left it at 12v and it it still very quiet.

Just leave the capacitors alone 🙂

I was looking for a ~400W PS myself a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty certain I would end up with an Antec TruePower 430W, since they come so highly recommended (I have one in another computer and they are, indeed, great). However, after digging and doing some research for a bit I ended up settling for a Thermaltake PurePower 420. It's ratings are very much similar to the Antec, and it comes with variable speed fans (which I have not yet heard spin above the minimum). I have been thoroughly satisfied with the unit: The rails are very consistent, the supply is quiet and there are plenty of connectors to go around.

The most important reason I chose it, however, is its price: it is significantly cheaper than the Antec.

My recommendation to you is either an Antec TruePower 430 or a ThermalTake PurePower 420 🙂
