I had the game in Japan when I was recovering from surgery, so I played FFX all the time. I think after I finally got burnt out I had nearly 700 hours in the game.
The sphere-grid was a terrible idea. People like choices when leveling up their characters, such as different build-types, but they don't like confusing puzzles and strategies to get where they want their chracter to be.
I laughed so hard near the end when Tidus says to Jecht
"Dad...."
"Yeah, son?"
(hangs head and looks toward ground)"....I hate you."
