Where have you tried? Alamo is the first place that comes to mind.

How does insurance work on a rental car?
Is that included in the rental fee or is it extra?
I do not have a full coverage policy on my personal vehicle.

It's extra and highly recommended.

Call 1-800-RENT-A-CAR for Enterprise they'll give you a quote, make sure to give them your real age to receive an accurate quote.

Most places will either not rent to you, or charge you an under 25 fee.

I believe (off the top of my head), a few of 'em are as follows:

Thrifty - $15
Alamo - $25
Dollar - $20-25

I pretty much called up all of those and others, told 'em I was 25 and got a rate. I think actually, the rep. at Alamo, knowing that thier $25 fee would make them less attractive bumped down the total cost of the reservation, so that it was very close to Thrifty's quote, even tho' their under $25 fee is $10 less.

Rented a car in Hawaii on Honeymoon and am 23. Got alamo and they charged $25 a day extra... ended up being $150 extra. Check with your car insurance company, sometimes they cover rentals. Also, I have a credit card (VISA gold something) that offers free car rental insurance if you use that card. Avoid paying the extra if you don't have too, it's such a joke.

Many car insurance companies will cover rentals. But if you use your own insurance, you will probably have to provide proof that your policy covers you.

I think if you are a member of AAA, you can rent from some places without an under 25 charge. You might want to look into it. I think membership is pretty cheap.

Just so you know there are certain instances where you can't rent a car if you're under 25, period. For example it is Texas state law that you cannot rent a car if you are under 25. I found this out the last time I went to visit my aunt and my grandmother in Houston. :frown:
