What is a good PC game to get?

Aimster

Lifer
I have not played any kind of PC games for years.

I love starcraft kind of games.

Should I go buy Warcraft 3? Will I enjoy it you think?

Age of Empires III, Civilization 4, FEAR, Oblivion, World of Warcraft, Everquest II, Battlefield 2, Half-Life 2...

Those are pretty much the big titles of the last year

Word is that Prey is a pretty quality PC game. If you're in for a scary game, F.E.A.R. is supposed to be amazing.

Prey is OKAY... For the 3 hours it takes to beat. It's short. And predictable. And slightly emo.

warcraft was a letdown.

i just reinstalled starcraft yesterday, seems theres a new patch out too🙂 been fun playing it again

warcraft 3 and its expansion are damned good, as well as age of empires 3.

titan quest is a really good diablo 2 in 3D clone. ut2k4 is a great old-school yet runs fast on any recent machine fps. fear/prey/HL2 are really good fps games as well.

starcraft got a new update recently. new icons and bugfixes...

WoW is also a great mmorpg.

Contrary to the posts so far, most people think Warcraft 3 was pretty good. It's cheap, give it a go.

Prey wasn't very fun for me, only point in the game I liked was riding the spaceships. Some good fps would be FEAR, Far Cry, or HL2.

If you wanna try some rpg then get Oblivion or Titan Quest.

Dawn of War is my prefered RTS right now. Very focused of fighting and not so much on gathering. Oblivion is awsome, but unless you have upgraded the vid card fairly recently, it will be a rocky performer. FEAR, HL2 and farcry are really good shooters. If you liked Diablo, titan quest is worth a look.

WC3 was a letdown for me as well. AoE3 was good but...it was like AoE2 all over again. When I have time I'll try Rise of Legends which I heard was decent.

for RTS games... also try Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War + Winter Assault expansion pack

Nother vote for Warhammer. Just started playing myself and love it.

What is your rig like?

You need at least a 9800p to play my 2 suggestions:

Oblivion is an exceptional game [period] . . . that also happens to have awesome gfx. Hybred - actionRPG with fps style fighting . . . lots of freedom . . . HUGE ... but NOT 'party' or very 'choices' driven. it's all about YOU - the Champion and your Quests.

Another game i am really liking is Black&White2 . . . it is a hybred "godgame/RTS". . . . great gfx and detail . . . maximum micromanaging . . . fpsers need not apply 😛

eq2 was a big title? is hl2 older than a year old?

See existing posts of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2. I've also been recently playing through Neverwinter Nights, since it's great that the mod community is going strong still.

Civilization, of any sort, though 2 & 3 I can recall wasting *many* hours on, are worthwhile, but go for 4 if you want since it's great as well (and doesn't suck as hard in the later stages of the game, in terms of waiting...and waiting...)

HL2 is like two years old isn't it?

EQ2...I played it...it was ok...it just didn't have that extra something that drew you in. Seemed like canned fantasy to me. EQ1 was awesome, especially for it's time. Even late in the game it still had a little bit going for it but at that time, Sony had pretty much killed most of the fun associated with EQ. It was telling that some people deleveled so they could re-explore places like the original EQ, Kunark and Velious expansions. The Verant days of EQ were definitely the best. The Sony takeover made it a stale game in comparison. Sorry, I like the 20-30 man guild as much as the next guy but when a raid requires upwards of 60 members (dictation 100-150 member guilds) you really start to lose me. And my enchanter in EQ1 was Plane of Time keyed when that was the newest expansion.
