hnsn82, the asus board is an excellent MB, but I'm currently running the Epox 8K3A+ and have to say that it's stable and very OC friendly. Do a search for the Epox MB and you'll find plenty of posts in it's favor. Hope this helps :)

The EPoX 8K3A+ only has USB 1.1. As for the price difference, it depends on which A7V333 you're comparing it to (I think there are 3 versions), but the A7V333 is going to be a good bit more expensive.

What about the MSI KT3-Ultra2. Supposed to be a great board and this revision has the USB 2.0 headers. Unfortunately, I can't find this board for sale anywhere...

The Epox is a good board. I also like the Shuttle AK35GT2R. It does not have USB2.0, but does have highpoint raid and a 5.1Ch C-Media sound card

kt333 has everything and does everything the kt266a does... plus it does more :)

the only possible reason you should buy a kt266a over the kt333 would be if the price was low enough.

the performance increase of the kt333 is very slight over the kt266a so it wouldnt really be a very good upgrade to go from kt266a to kt333

currently i have a7v133 with 1.4 gig w/ 266fsb would i see a big difference?

what do you do on your pc?
if its write papers and surf the internet then you wont see much increase in upgrading :)

im not sure what reviews you are reading but the kt333 is a very stable, mature chipset and most of the boards based on it perform very nicely

i prefer the epox 8k3a+, but really there are many good boards to choose from that use the kt333 chipset

well. i play games once in a while, last game i played was warcraft3.. my current 1.4 tb lagged a bit... not alot but when the armies got bigger you can tell its slowing down. however it might just been the geforce2 gts card that i use.

I also run dual monitor.. i dont' have the dual vga in the same card i use a pci card.

I am giving this pc to my parents so i want to build a new one. just need to know if it is worth it going to kt333 or go to kt266a.

is there another revision of the 333 coming out anytime soon?

thanks

I got the 8K3A from Mwave.com for 74$+S&H which makes it about the same price as many decent KT266A boards and it has DDR333 support and 1/5 divider on it and CPU on-die temp sensor support. I put a 1600+ AGOIA (66$shipped@Newegg) in it and I'm running@1.75ghz(166FSB w/PCI&AGP in spec) default Vcore (dips to 1.71v under heavy load but still stable) I can't see any reason not to choose it over the KT266A based boards when the feature set is more up to date.

hmmmm.. i see sounds like a plan to me. I will go with the epox board too then.. what is the difference with "+" and "CE" or just the "E" added to the end of it. I read that "CE" is a revision.. so is that better?

thanks

Well, the 8K3A+ is the 8K3A with 6channel sound and RAID, the 8K3AE is identical in features to the 8K3A but only has 5PCI slots, I didn't see any specs for the CE version but I presume that would be a microATX version. They do list a 8K5A2 and 8K5A2+ now that looks to be the 8K3AE(5 PCI slots) with USB 2.0 on board and the "+" model has RAID, 6channel sound, built in LAN, USB 2.0 and 6PCI slots. I haven't seen the 8K5A2+ around yet but it looks like a winner for the feature set and hopefully overclocks like the 8K3A :D

ooooooo... on board and sound with usb 2 and 6pci sounds very nice.. but do you get a conflict if you use slot 3 on the pci. I get that if i plug a device in slot 3 and it says the Promise raid is using the same irq .. so my A7V133 really only has 4 usable pci slots.. 3 if you minus the one right next to the agp slot because it is going to block the video fan..

on your a7v133 you can use all of the pci slots.. what it does is gives you a warning that any card you put in that slot will share irq with the promise controller

but since most pci cards support irq sharing its not a problem
