What Is A Good Hourly Wage For Someone Remodeling A Bathroom?

Just curious, as my folks are going to have someone remodel one of theirs. I was going to do the work for free back when they just wanted a new sink and some other stuff done, but then they decided they wanted to get it completely reworked.

They may have found someone through a guy that put in their new water pump. Apparently he does installations and such all day at his job, and thinks he could redo this whole bathroom of theirs in two to three days, just working in the evenings after getting done at his regular job. He proposed $25.00 an hour, not including the cost of the materials. It sounds decent to me given the estimated timeframe, though it could take a bit longer if there is rotten wood and such behind the panels.

I would get some other quotes and compare to that. It would be tough for us to judge considering wages vary so widely

That said, I just remodeled a bathroom in February...when I can I'll go dig up what they charged me for labor. I negotiated using the total price and this was in Central Texas.

$20/hr would be fair. Guess it depends on who is doing it and how professional they are.

I used to finish bathrooms when I was in college for $10/hr. But then again I'm no pro.

Your parents should probably get a pro with some credibility. Letting some shlub redo their bathroom as a side project of his is just asking for trouble.

Specifically, a pro with insurance.

Alright, found it

I don't have an hourly wage but gave him a flat rate of $350 to install two faucets, tub, toilet seat, and the siding.

Sometimes, that's the best route to go.
At least you know for sure what it is costing you.
Some guys quote a good hourly rate, but take forever to do the work, costing you much more!

BTW: for a qualified, competent remodeler, $25 hr. is pretty cheap.
Expect to pay much more than that if you go with a licensed, insured proffessional.
Insurance and other costs of doing the job ar astronomical! (My first year in business, I had to pay $25K for the first year of Workers Comp. alone.)
