What is a good GPU for 19" monitor? 4850 vs 4870 vs GTX 260

I want to build a gaming pc (~$1000). I already have a 19" monitor (max res. 1440x900) and C2D E8500. But I have not decided on the GPU and thus the MOBO (nforce vs intel for SLI or CF in the **FUTURE**, maybe in a year or 2 for newer games). Right now, I play CoD most of the time. But I definitely want a video card to play other games like crysis as well.

I am considering 4850 512mb, 4870 512mb, 4870 1gb, or gtx 260. Which video card should i get for this resolution? For what I have heard so far, 4850 seems to be a better choice for price/performance at this resolution. However, I am somewhat concerned over its single slot design. Does this really matter or should I choose 4870 or gtx 260.

Thanks!

Welcome to anandtech, Justin. PC gaming requires updating your components, especially your video card, quite often. If you're going to be a PC gamer, you're going to have to get used to that fact. In other words, there is no "future". Buy what you need, when you need it. A $150 video card from next year will blow away this year's $150 card, just like this year's $150 card blows away last year's $150 card. Anyway, a 4850 is more card than is needed for 1440x900 resolution, today.
