I'd suggest a Collie or Shelty mixed with something a bit smaller. My parents have a sort of Shelty/Pomeranian, and it's the best overall dog I've ever seen in person.

HERE'S SOMETHING FOR ALL YOU PIT BULL FANS:

Infant girl mauled by family's pit bull mix

A baby will require extensive facial surgery after being mauled by her mother's pit bull mix in Santa Barbara, authorities said on Friday.
The 11-month-old girl suffered severe wounds to her face, forehead and scalp. She was treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and released. Police say she is likely to need extensive facial reconstruction surgery.
The dog, Peppe, was euthanized at the request of the owner.
The woman who owned the dog is unlikely to face any charges in connection with the attack, said Santa Barbara police Lt. Paul McCaffrey.
The attack, which took place in an apartment in the 1100 block of San Andres Street, happened when the dog met the girl for the first time, police said. The mother of the child had kept the dog at a family member's home in Santa Barbara since the baby was born. On Thursday afternoon, the mother brought the dog home and introduced it to the child.
The 55-pound dog attacked the baby almost immediately, police said, biting the girl in the face.
She is being treated by a surgeon who specializes in dealing with severe facial trauma
, authorities said.
The 8-year-old dog had a current license and had not bitten anyone in the past, according to police.
Santa Barbara County Animal Control Officer Jeff Deming, who handled the investigation, said in a statement that the dog was likely jealous of the baby.
"Whenever something new is introduced in a dog's life, whether it be another dog, a new resident or a child, the dog may feel threatened, jealous or a need to establish its order in the family pack," he said.
"So many people just think of the family pet as being just that, a pet and harmless," Lt. McCaffrey said, "but dogs don't think like people."

The only people who keep pit bull land sharks are those with a fetish about the dog's badness image, which is supposed to imply that they are somehow rough tough macho people, which of course they are not because they need the fetish to achieve the feeling. Pathetic and dangerous to society.

A female German Shepherd that is on the smaller side is not necessarily a large dog.

I love our Australian Cattledogs (aka Blue Heelers), but they are NOT suitable for people who live in the city or in apartments, and are best kept on a farm where they will have livestock to keep them company.

You moron. It's the owner who causes them to become vicious. Pit Bulls are naturally not human agressive.

It's the media that caused people to shape their opinion on Pit Bulls. Any stupid ass owner can create a vicious dog. However, the general stereotype is that pit bulls are teh debil.

If you're a ****** owner of any dog and abuse it, etc, you'll create a vicious dog. It isn't only Pit Bulls.

Posting a newspaper report does not make me a "moron."

As for pit bulls not being unpredictably aggressive, don't tell us on ATOT, but instead tell that little baby girl who'll suffer her entire life with a mangled face. Why don't you write her family a letter, in care of the newspaper reporter who'se published article you find "moronic," and the reporter can forward it to the victim baby's mother. Perhaps you can also post your sympathy letter here. Write to:

LOL @ you. How the hell are you going to shape your opinion on an entire dog breed because of that? Abuse a dog, it will become vicious. ANY dog breed, not just pit bulls. I'm sure if your neighbor abused and treated it's chihuaha like crap, it'd maul someone's face off. You just don't hear about any other vicious dog attacks from any other dog because the world is against Pit Bulls. Pit bulls are TEH DEBIL I SAY!!1! AND THE NEWS SAYS THEY ARE SO THAT MEANS THEY ARE!!1!

Yeah, after having myself worked in Houston for awhile & on semisubmersible rigs out in the gulf, I can say, based upon that experience, your attitude is just about what can be expected from a texan. Very stereotypical. I bet you have a pickup full of empty beer cans & gun rack, drool chewing tobacco & wear a baseball cap backwards, Y'all.

You'r insistence that someone must have mistreated the ravaging maniacle dog is based on n o t h i n g contained in the published newspaper article. Just your imagined fantasy.
In other words, is totally worthless.

Wow, you have no way to defend your stupid statements, so just resort to lame and petty "insults" and stereotypes.

You aren't worth arguing with.
