What is a good computer game?

A few days ago I realized that I have an extremely powerful computer but no new games. The last game I bought was Diablo 2 (right after it came out). I find myself mostly playing SNES games using an emulator (what a waste of a 1GHz CPU). I decided that it is time to buy a game. Can anyone recommend a good RPG? Or how about an RTS game? The more addictive the better. :)

Bid for power for quake 3 looks good. That is if you like dragon ball Z. But it is not out quite yet.
Mech warrior 4 you might t give a try.

Zero Wing on the Genesis emulator sounds fun to me. That's what I do to pass my time...

These are some of my all time favorite games, that could still probably be bought (off the top of my head, will probably forget some)

RPG's to Buy:
Baldurs Gate I & II
Deus Ex (shooter/rpg hybrid. really fun)
Planescape Torment (A bit older, but perhaps my favorite)
Icewind Dale

RTS's To Buy:
Homeworld and Homeworld: Cateclysm (sp?)(still blows me away)
Red Alert 2
Ground Control
Age of Empires 2
Shogun:Total War
Sacrifice
Myth II: SOulblighter

Turn Based Strategy (warning... if he even remotly likes this genre, really addictive! Has the "just one more turn" syndrome):
Civilization II
Alpha Centauri
Hero's of Might and Magic (I, II, and III)

Simulation:
Freespace 2 (one of my favorite games ever. Space Sim)
Janes F/A-18 Simulator (solid)

FPS:
Half-Life (a must buy. You get WAAAAYYYYY more than your moneys worth cause of the sh*tload of mods out there. The best mods are Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, Firearms, Front-Line Force, and Team Fortress Classic (in that order, in my opinion). There are also other great single player add-ons).
Unreal Tournament
Quake 3 (only if you like fast deathmatch. I actually don't like that much, but the graphics are the best).
System Shock 2
Thief 2 (not a shooter, but first person. I would give this the vote for best game nobody played).
Rainbow 6

Other Solid Games:
SimCity 3000
The Sims (I don't like it much, but it is well designed and plenty of other people love it).
Railroad Tycoon II
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Evercrack (excellent game. DOn't recommend buying as it takes over your life)

This is off the top of my head. Hope this gives you some good ideas.

gqstyle09, have you played DOD (day of defeat)? I used to play CS all the time as well. I downloaded this mod, and now I can't go back to CS. It just isn't as good. And the amazing thing is, DOD is still in very early beta. Things will just get better.

At the end of the month, Black and White comes out. If you can hold out, wait for that. From the previews so far, it looks VERY promising.

Also, Tribes 2 is near release.

Currently, I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2 and it's pretty f#$#@ing incredible.

Clive Barker's Undying is a very nice looking game that will put some stress on your cpu. Very fun single player (only) game, too. Good story, voice acting, and probably the creepiest game I've played since playing Doom with the lights out (more so than Resident Evil).
