What is a good commuter for a single guy?

I'm not going to resell the car. I would use it to commute for the next 5-6 years then give it to my niece/nephew if they want it.

1 passenger door, front bumper, and a head light was replaced.

Alarm bells are ringing in my head... Usually insurance company will not total a car with the kind of damage you are describing.

I though the same thing, however the friend/work associate that I know very well over 6 years have been doing business with the mechanic for the last 8-9 years. And, not one of the 30+ vehicles that he purchased for his large electrical contracting company from the mechanic had any trouble.

PS. They are going to let me take the car to a mechanical shop of my choice to have it tested, and I don't have to purchase unless it is passed the inspection. I'm taking it to the local Toyota Lexus dealer ship for the inspection and I'm sure that they are going to try to find faults with it because I was going to buy a car off their lot. The awesome deal is that the seller is willing to pay for the inspection.

Update.

So far the car drove well with out any problem, and it was delivered to me in mint condition. I had to wait 2 days to get the car because it had 2 little dings in the windshield (they replaced it with a new factory windshield, free of charge).
