What is a good clay or mud styling brand for hair?

Mud? Clay? You can get those for free in the yard.

Damn, you're so funny.

I know. But what's funnier is the fact that those are names for hair styling products. I just use mousse. Used to us gel, but it's too stiff.

Do you use any of these? What do you recommend in terms of final look..not brand?

For me it's a messy look with no shine and good hold.

What's a matte finish? Is that sort of like a rough texture to the hair?

A matte finish is free of shine.

I've used all of those and I would recommend you try either the American Crew Fiber or Matrix ShapeTrix.

Emulisfy product in palms and work evenly through slightly damp or dry hair, starting from back to front, from roots up.

i think what works best is d:fi brand products or TIGI Bedhead. each brand has several things in their line that can style mens hair quite well

Not the thread hijack but what is a good product for a guy with long hair? I've been using some V-05 pomade stuff and find it's decent but wouldn't mind trying something else. Long hair as in just natural looking straight long hair that gets poofy after I shower. Hence I need something light to control it a bit so I don't look like a mentally invalid doof. Matte finish sounds good to me as well.

add to that American Crew Forming Cream. i've found that to be a little easier to manage with longer hair, than AC Fiber. Fiber gives me better matte-look with shorter hair, but it gets kinda hard to manage with slightly longer hair. the Forming Cream is a little less matte than Fiber, but definitely not wet-looking like gel.

When I used to use styling products, I got some flax seed based liquid from Aveda. It didn't hold well with longer hair, but it wasn't as shiny as styling gel and had a more subtle look.

I meant to add that to my list. Thanks for pointing it out. The OP will likely like it as well.
