What is a good CD-ROM that reads burnt CD's??

I am looking to buy a cd-rom for a new computer I am building. I would like to know what would be a good drive that likes burnt cd's? I was going to buy a kenwood but I know they do not like CD-R's. Price is a factor but I would like some speed too, any help would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

Hrmm my Creative 52x CDRom read all CDRs and CDRWs perfectly....

only problem with that is that the drive itself failed after 6months...so it's sort of hard to recommend buying it....

The plextor 40x is also extremely good for it, but it's SCSI only 🙁

Finding a good (IDE) CDRom is actually quite difficult...that's why I have a CDRW and a DVD Rom and no regular CD 😉

My DVD rom is good for CDRs, it can be a bit uppity with CDRWs at times, but usually it's good with them to.

Of course my CDRW reads tehm all fine hehe 🙂

Thx for the info Noriaki! 🙂 On down the road I plan to get Burner, or a DVD, but for now I just want the cd-rom. Makes more money available that I can spend on a processor. 😀 I checked out the creative stats and it seems like a pretty good drive, sucks that yours failed so fast. 🙁

Actually the Teac CD-540E is probably the best IDE drive on the market right now. It reads CD-R's as fast as pressed discs, and RW's almost as well. Rips audio at approximately 30x.

Best regards,
Floyd

I recently installed a Toshiba 48x in a friend's PC. I was so impressed by it, that I got one for my PC (discarding my Kenwood 52x.)

I have yet to put a cd in, that it couldn't read. I can highly recommend it.

Your question had to do with what is a good model of CD-ROM to read "... burnt CD's...".
You know, I've been looking for one of these for a lonnnggg time. As a smoker, I've "burnt" several CD's and haven't been able to find a CD-ROM that can read one of them yet. LOL 😛

I have two Asus CD-Roms (40x and 50x) and they have no problem reading CD-RW's. Never had a problem with them, I would highly recomend them!

I have a creative labs 36x cdrom and it's garbage for reading cdr media

if you use cdr's alot stay away from this like the plague. On the other hand it reads pressed cd's wothout a problem.

Sorry Silverbullet, I couldn't help myself. 😉

Toshiba has manufactured excellent CD-ROM drives for years although I havn't had the pleasure
of owning one myself. My Sony CDU711-CH 32X is still a great unit but I put it in my brother's system. I use a Pioneer DVD-115 DVD-ROM for CD duties currently...but...

I recently purchased an ACER CD650-P (50X) CD-ROM for my folks system and it has performed
very well and reads the CD-RW's I've burned with no problems. I also like how the external volume control adjusts not JUST the external headphone volume but also the INTERNAL CD Audio
"feed" that you send to your soundcard; a nice way to get that "ideal" balance of volume vs. distortion. It's a pretty drive too... very bright white... but noisier than the dickens while spinning discs. It's signal/noise ratio is a little lower (meaning "hiss" is a litte higher) than either the Sony or the Pioneer units I discussed. I once had an Asus 34X drive which was a good drive but not up to the Sony CDU711-CH's performance.

My final opinion: If you can find a Toshiba unit from a reputable dealor, go for it. If not, then the Acer or Asus models should suit you just fine.
