PHP.net has an excellent documentation on the basics of PHP

Also, try WebmasterBase.com. The 'coding' section contains one excellent tutorial, written by Kevin Yank, that will teach you the basics in no-time

A good beginner's book, also from Wrox, is here. I'm using it for the PHP class I'm taking and it seems to be very well written for the beginner.
