A Maxtor 200GB SATA Diamondmax Plus 9 in a client of mine's machine just died (according to their diagnosis program, I was called because the drive wasn't working and they suspected a virus).
Should I just have them RMA the drive, or will the replacement drive die too?

edit: well, i must have made a typo on the Serial # before. The drive is out of warranty. What should I have them buy?

It would be a replacement from Maxtor - it was bought separetely from the computer.
Will the replacement also just die? (these people have had REALLY bad luck with HDDs. First, the Deskstar 60GXP (I think it was, maybe a 75?) in one of their 2 machines dies (definately not their fault, all of them die). Then, this drive dies - so will it be worth the hassle of RMA, or will the new one last the same amount of time as the old one (about 1.5years iirc)
edit: would I get a DM+9 or a DM+10 back from them?

now that i realize that i misread the serial # and it isn't in warranty, what should i buy
also, the whole 1 year warranty thing is BS - drives seem to fail a lot a bit after that year. manufacturers should go back to 3 year.

Barracuda 7200.7 SATA or the 7200.8 SATA
I'm recommending it because of the 5 yr. warranty and all the good feedback from AT members.
Not one hdd out of the 5 I've had have failed on me. Four being Maxtor and one WD. I guess I just have good luck.
