What is a good $200 or around DVD player for my telivision?

I would like it to play CD/DVD/MP3/VCD/DVD-R/ "possibly DVD-RW" and to have a lot of whistles and bells on it. If any of you can recommend a DVD player please do so.

check the pioneer 440. amazing deck that should do all the things you asked for. Is also very slim.

Thanks

The telivision is a 36" toshiba. Its about 2 years old or so. we may possibly get a hdtv when they get to be cheap. But id like support for hdtv just for the sake of it.

Yeah....

If you're going to an HDTV or HDTV monitor, definately consider getting a Progressive Scan DVD player by Sony. Yup, you read that correctly. Of all the people I see or read about on various websites, they rave about some particular Sony Progressive Scan DVD player (I'm not sure if they have more than one model....)

With your current television, you would not be able to use progressive scan yet. Progressive scan can only be used with a HDTV ready set. There are plenty of good interlaced players out there for you though. Go here and read the reviews in their DVD player section. I would highly recommend the Panasonic players. I have the Panny RV31, which carries all of the features you are looking for, and it is only around $170. If you need multi-disk, I would go with the Panny CV51. It has the same guts as the RV31, but it is a 5 disk carousel.

I own a few DVD players and I've returned a few. The one I have been happiest with is my Toshiba SD3109 which has been the primary one I have used for about the last year and a half. One of my friends returned both a JVC and a Pioneer before settling with on a Toshiba (I do not remember the model, not the same as mine.) My Apex DVD player which I loaned to my girlfriend, I have had to clean a few times and has been used about 1/3 as much as my SD3109. I have not had to do any maintenance on my SD3109. I have had it lock up on me two or three times over the year and a half, but I can always stop it and restart right where I was. My only complain with it is if I turn the power off it does not remember the current place in the movie like some DVD players do.

I have not looked over Toshiba's current DVD products, but I would recommend them based on my experience and the experience of my friends that own one.
