I don't know anything about small LCDs, but I just thought I'd throw out my opinion, irrelevant to you as it might be, that for a $300 budget, you could get a pretty nice 19" CRT... Rather than a tiny 15" LCD. But maybe you don't the space or whatever.

Meh.

And believe me, this is MASSIVELY out of character for me. I'm a huge LCD proponent... just not in your case. This will be the second jig for VIAN....

i've hear the viewsonic and kds 15'' are pretty excellent. Samsung also makes a couple interesting models. Just stay away from kogi, and other 'cheaper' brands.
