What is a gmail invite?

I've read here about gmail going to POP3. I have a hotmail account and an optimum online account. I was just wondering what a gmail invite and POP3 was and is there any benefit with gmail over the 2 emails I already have.

An invite is when someone invites you to open a GMAIL account. Invites are the only way of signing up for GMAIL right now. POP3 will allow you to check your google mail from an e-mail client.
 
And, from what I can tell, Google/Gmail doesn't invite you for a whole bunch of spam like Hotmail/Microsoft does.

i'm surprised by the kindness shown on this sunday... the obvious answer would've been to google it yourself... 🙂
 
Its an invitation for the worlds best Email service. Google owns GMail and created it. Gmail gives you FREE 1GB email accounts BUT it is still in Beta and you need an invite from a friend. I got one I think, but I think I used them all up.
