What is a forum?

What is P&N specifically?
I tried posting this in P&N and they locked it before I could get the required information. I was told it did not belong there so I'll try here.

fo·rum
Pronunciation: 'for-&m
Function: noun
: a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas.

open
Pronunciation: 'O-p&n, -p&m
Function: adjective
: having no enclosing or confining barrier

dis·cus·sion
Pronunciation: di-'sk&-sh&n
Function: noun
: consideration of a question in open and usually informal debate

Having read the above definitions I was under the impression that AnandTech was a forum for the free expression of ideas and opinions.

When almost every post is edited and censored it is no longer a forum but a commentary of the editor, an interpretation of ?His? or ?Her? ideas.

com·men·tary
Pronunciation: 'kä-m&n-"ter-E, -"te-rE
Function: noun
: a systematic series of explanations or interpretations.

Is Webster's definitions wrong?

I was told that it was not a free exchange of Ideas

"Also the MODs will be more than glad to tell you that P&N is not an ?open? forum but a privately owned message board and as such they have the right to control speech in anyway they see fit. When you join AT you are accepting that fact. If you object to them editing the forums then you can find some place else to post, as they have said to me a few times"

my response was as followes but didn't get in befoe the lock in p&N

I agree that if there were no MODs the forum would become unusable, however I think that since they have been outted some of the mod's are flexing their muscels more in an effort to appear tough and not moderating in a fair and judical way. They need to be some what like an umpire and call strikes on the position of the ball, and not on they fact that they don't particullarly like the individual player or his views.

So if it is not for the purpose of exchanging views and ideas what is it for, the commentary and opinions of the MODs only???

Read the rules here It will answer all your questions.
