This doesn't belong in P&N. And based on your comments below re: 'buried', I wont move it.

What is a forum?

What is P&N specifically?

Move this to Personal Forum Issues if this is not Political enough or it needs to be appropriately buried.

fo·rum
Pronunciation: 'for-&m
Function: noun
: a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas.

open
Pronunciation: 'O-p&n, -p&m
Function: adjective
: having no enclosing or confining barrier

dis·cus·sion
Pronunciation: di-'sk&-sh&n
Function: noun
: consideration of a question in open and usually informal debate

Having read the above definitions I was under the impression that AnandTech was a forum for the free expression of ideas and opinions.

When almost every post is edited and censored it is no longer a forum but a commentary of the editor, an interpretation of ?His? or ?Her? ideas.

com·men·tary
Pronunciation: 'kä-m&n-"ter-E, -"te-rE
Function: noun
: a systematic series of explanations or interpretations.

Is Webster's definitions wrong?

I think P&N serves as a pretty decent forum.

In the last few days we have seen more locks than usual, but in the month prior to that there was virtually no locked threads at all.

Most of the locks and edits are aimed at keeping the forums relatively tame and usable. If we had no MODs at all it would disintegrate into yelling matches that served no purpose. At which point most of the long term users would abandon the forum and go some place else.

Also the MODs will be more than glad to tell you that P&N is not an ?open? forum but a privately owned message board and as such they have the right to control speech in anyway they see fit. When you join AT you are accepting that fact. If you object to them editing the forums then you can find some place else to post, as they have said to me a few times :)

BTW I hope they don't lock or more this thread. I think it is good to discuss the forum within the forum and not off some place else.

I agree with Prof John.

If this place were unmoderated it would become unusable

If any user doesn't like what they see they are free to go somewhere else.

Who said anything about not having Mods?

Like I said in bottom of my sig, don't like what I post, don't read it.
