Dell proudly announces that a Dell "Genuine Windows Vista Capable" workstation is great for...

Booting the Operating System, without running applications or games

So if you ever wanted to buy a computer for the sole purpose of booting Windows Vista without doing anything else, now is the time to buy a Dell computer.

Huh? My Vista workstation does more than boot the OS. Certainly more than any Mac out there.

Out of curiosity, what can your Vista workstation do that any Mac can't?

wow, and they call mac users fanboys. Where does all this hate come from? No one even mentioned Macs and yet you felt threatened enough to mention it. Sheesh, talk about an inferiority complex.

It's my question. Appears you have no good answer.

No, the part that the OP quoted was for a Dell Vista machine with 512MB RAM.

Why else would someone buy Vista, unless it came with a new system? The biggest deal with it is how it looks, so why not just have happy people staring at it after it is booted? Who needs games and productivity when you have... Aero?

Will Vista make me a better gamer?

Will Vista make me churn out my school homework faster?

Will Vista increase my post count here at Anandtech? Whoops, it just did... by one.

OMG I'm gonna get Vista and be productive and pwn in games and stuff!!!111!!

I really am considering Vista for a spare machine since I can get it free (legit) from MSDN-AA. However, my main system and my gaming rig runs just fine on XP, so I feel no urgency in wasting time installing Vista on those.

It will be a different matter once there are things I need/want that will no longer work on XP. And no, the announced upcoming DX10 games aren't anything I need/want.

Yep, you're right, my bad. I should have posted something constructive too. I only got defensive since Looney's post really needed a comeback.

I think Vista, like any OS, should exist for the convenience of the applications that allow end users to be productive. An OS (whether OS X or Vista) shouldn't require 512MB just to boot up and 1GB to do something productive. OSX 10.4 is almost that, and apparently Vista is too (one time I wish MS hadn't copied Apple).
