I think this setting in NERO increases compatibility of DVD+R/DVD-R media with older DVD-Rom drives... only a few drives suppport it though.

does my nec nd-2500A support this feature?

And does this setting apply to both DVD+ and DVD- R, or just one?

The 'book type' is a piece of information which is recorded onto the disc, which gives information on the disc type (e.g. pressed DVD, Recordable DVD, etc.)

It is recorded in the main data area of the disc so is easily accessible by players. Some early DVD players would check this, to ensure that they wouldn't attempt to play incompatible discs (which had the additional benefit of not allowing copies to play). Later models use more sophisticated techniques for analysing discs, so just ignore the 'book type'.

On DVD-R the book type is pre-burned onto blanks at the factory. On DVD+R it is up to the burning software to burn it. Normally, the software will just specify 'recordable', but the software can specify 'pressed' if you want your discs to work in these old players.

i heard that enabling it would write dvd+r's as DVD-ROMs. Will the burned dvds (using book type dvd-rom setting) be able to play on computer dvd-rom drives that dont read dvd+r and dvd-r (i have encountered a few)?

I know my XBOX won't read DVD+R discs but if I switch book type to DVD-ROM it can read the same brand disc perfectly.

Thats good!

Is simply enabling dook type dvd-rom in nero enough, or do i have to change some settings with another app like DVD info pro?
