What is a 4850X2 Comparable too?

I believe you are way off. 2 4850 1gb cards would easily beat a gtx260 and even a gtx280. a 5850 does NOT blow a 4850x2(2gb) out of the water. if it was doing that then it would be matching or beating a 4870x2 which the 5870 cant even do in most cases.

The 5850 is just a 5870 in disguise. Really, even the ram quality is the same as 5870, just downclocked. The 5850 is a monster OCer, reaching 1ghz easily on air. In benchmarks, when its OCed and the 5870 is also OCed, performance difference is barely noticeable. The extra SP in the 5870 is not being used by ATI drivers. Why? You can guess..

4850x2 is around 5850 level, this is true. I'd guess that due to the heat from 2 GPUs that youd be able to OC the 5850 higher and take a little more performance, but for $100 less the 4850x2 makes the 5850 it's little biatch in terms of price-to-performance ratio. No DX11 and high power scares people away, but $100 is a very significant different.

crossfire really isn't a problem anymore TBH

i have been running xfire and trifire since the 3870 was released, back then it was a 50/50 chance without doing a long process to get a game working

over the last year or two i haven't had a single xfire related problem, playing new releases all the time and never have to wait for drivers or patches

the only release i can remember xfire not working properly in the last year was sims3, and one 4850 runs it maxed out with no problems.

update drivers every so often and you will have no problems with a 4850x2, and it will out perform a 4890 for the same price.

I have a 4850 X2 2GB and it's roughly a 5850 - mops the floor with everything Nvidia has except GTX285/295.[/b]

Yes, a 5850 is comparable - I run a 5870, I know.

There is no problem with 4850 X2 2GB in the following games: all Steam Valve-original (Source engine-based) games (TF2, HL-HL2-series w/ Episodes, Portal, Sin + Episodes), Shattered Horizon, America's Army, UT2k4, UT3, ET:QW, Dark Messiah M&M, Riddick-series, Prey, BF2, MoH: Airborne, CoD, CoD2, CoD4, CoD WaW, CoD MW2, Far Cry 2, Crysis, Crysis Wars, FEAR: Combat, Bioshock, STALKER: SoC, STALKER: CS, World in Conflict (incl. Soviet Assault), SC, Red Factions-series incl. RF: Guerilla, Fallout 3, Wings of Prey, entire anniversary Delta Force-collection, Serious Sam-series incl. HD First Encounter, entire Lucas Arts-collection (all Jedi/Dark Forces-franchise retro via Steam :D) - this is just off the top of my head and my Steam list.

I can also confirm that with the patch Saboteur runs fine now as well.

If you want to get the slower card that's significantly slower than current DX1 top cards then yes, get this.

If you want a card that stands up for current top-tier cards like a 5850 and faster than 4890 and has a much better proprietary cooling then get the 4850 X2 2GB which is the better card any way you look at it.

Neither , I wait a week or 2 and get a 5830.
As fast or faster as a 4890 with less power needs, less heat and all the features of the next generation for about 230$ Plus it leaves a slot open for crossfire in the future.
