2 front
1 center
2 rear
2 rear-centers (left and right....typically matrixed...I'm not sure if there is a full discrete 7.1 setup...there is a discrete 6.1 setup)

Seriously...wouldn't you have to have your room engineered from the ground up to make it acoustically compatible with a setup this complex?

Outside of bragging rights, is there really any discernable difference between 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 SS setups???

My 7.1 Rig.

Center: Energy Veritas V2.0 Center
Fronts: Energy Veritas V2.4i
Sides: Energy Veritas V2.0 Rear
Rears: Energy Veritas V2.2
Sub: Klipsch RSW-10

Receiver: Denon AVR-3802 (cheesy for now, until I can afford the 7 channel HALO Seperates by Parasound) The speakers killed me.
EDIT: My neighbors hate me.

7.1... I can barely tell which is which with just 5.1... lol. Ah well, it'll probably keep going up until it gets to 25.8 or something.

I can hear the difference with media that offers DDex and DTSes. I have a modest 6.1 setup in a apartment.

Onkyo TX 797
Energy Take 5.2 system with S 8.2 sub and a extra Energy center for the rear center.
