I have a 754 mobo, so I am not running dual channel for memory, but I am 1T right now with my 2x512 mushkin special 2-2-2. But I am about to add a 512 of Corsair XMS pc3200 and I think that means I will go to 2T. Does that matter? THanks!

I doubt you will notice a diffrence, its not like your 3dmark 03 score is gonna drop a thousand points if you care about that.

Besides I think it will only go to 2T if you have more than two DIMM slots occupied but im not 100% sure about that.

Actually I read several posts about 1.5GB being slower than 1GB, I have no idea why this is the case you may want to do a search, if you want more than 1GB, you will see much better performance with 2GB anyway.(where it is needed)

Was concerning going from a dual channel setup to a single channel setup though? B/c I am not running dual channel either way, so 1.5 has to be better than 1.0 right?

I was just about do the same on socket 939 though and I did a performance test. With 1T I got 113 fps on the source stress test (1280x1024 aa x4, af x8, all settings maxed.) Then I ram it at 2T just to see what it would be like with 4 dimms and I got 112 fps. As for latency in everest home edition, it went from 40 to 45, memory read basically stayed at 2700 mb/s but write dropped from 2600 to 2100. But as I said before, the source engine (cs:s source+hl2 +more to come) is actually pretty cpu dependant (ram+cpu) so any changes to the cpu/ram should result in a significant change to fps yet it didn't do anything. I ram the test a couple more times at 1T and 2T to make sure there were no bad renders or anything. Results stayed basically exactly the same with 2T actually getting a higher fps a few times because I was able to increase my memory speed due to the loosened 2T timing.

If you have an older core you might lose some of your ram speed too. They would clock your DDR400 down to DDR333. I believe that was the newcastle and winchester cores.

No REAL difference between dual-channel and single channel. Maybe a few frames per second...5-10% drop in benchmarks. But you should make up for that with the extra 512MB of memory.
