I have Lite On DVD Rom as well and the max ripping speed that I have reached is 8.5x (around 11,300kb/s) Doubt you can go higher than that.

1x = approx 1 hour to burn an entire disc (doesn't matter what medium)
2x = 1/2 hour

and so on

I am Jack's complete lack of knowledge.

Using DVD Decrypter I can easily hit 18,000kbps with my lite-on DVD/CD-RW combo drive....I think the highest I've seen is 19500. Ripping movies is slower, but ripping PS2 games I found to be much faster...must be because of the CSS :)

My bad, I thought this turned into a dvd/cd transfer rate discussion... It takes the same amount of time to burn a dvd at 1x that it does to burn a cd at 1x

That was what I was trying to say, but it's completely irrelevant for this discussion.

I am an idiot.

Like I said, for movies it's much slower...I'm not an expert but I think that's because DVD's are "protected" and therefore take longer to copy....for movies I can usually get up to about 10,000kbps: try using DVD Decrypter to rip your movies...I think it's the fastest by far.

I rip movies at that rate so its quite fast. For DVD decrypter, choose Tools>Settings>CSS tab> I/O Key Exchange -> Brute force. This method is very very fast. Also installing an ASPI layer might make a difference.
