I was given an old Macintosh PowerBook Duo 280c (circa 1994) laptop and it has a 66 MHz Motorola 68LC040 processor. Does anyone know what Intel CPU this would be roughly equivalent to? I'm guessing probably a 486?

Well, feature wise it would be closer to a pentium 66. But speed wise, like one of those old DX-4 100's.

i don't think the 68040 series is superscalar nor does it have a pipe-lined fpu
