What instant messaging medium do you prefer?

We all know there are programs like Trillian that will connect you to AOL Instant Messaging, ICQ, etc. What I want to know is what people prefer as to where their account resides.

I know I probably don't know of most of them so I'll add them to the poll as I see them.

AIM...although if that will turn me into a whiny bitch that can't stop complaining about my free lunch, then I may have to quit using it.

I prefer whatever protocol it is that Yahoo uses, because if you lose your connection, in my experience, you are immediately logged off. With OSCAR (AIM/ICQ), the remote side doesn't immediately realize you're no longer there, and buddies will continue to see you online... they just won't have any idea that you aren't getting their messages.

Just thought of that as you said this and was adding it prior to this message - Will GMail Chat suffice?

Then I suspect you chose Yahoo unless there is another account provider that I don't know of.

Where is the "I don't use one" option?

If I need to tell someone something I use the phone or email.

Added.

Thanks, but I somehow mis-clicked the "do not have/use" option. I thought I clicked on it but after clicking the vote button, the count is still 0. So apparently one of the AOL votes is mine.

Yes, I chose Yahoo... I just personally don't like Yahoo's implementation of their protocol. :p

With Trillian/Pidgin, the medium makes no difference. I have accounts on icq/aim/msn.

Friends all use AIM (mostly) or GChat (a few). I use pidgin to connect with the AIM network and just use g-chat through gmail.

It seems to be regional. I'd love to have someone map it out by state. MSN is the one everyone uses here..thank god. I hate AIM.

And I don't like using third party clients either because then you usually miss out on features, and they are all too bubbly looking.
