What information can a website find out about you when you connect to it?

I usually use dialup internet when travelling, but I made my password the same as my username 😛 I was speaking to a buddy of mine today and he said that wasn't a good idea (besides for the obvious reasons) because when you connect to a site they can see the username that you are using to connect to your ISP with. Anyone know if there's any truth to that comment?

On a reltaed note, what information can they find out about you when you connect to a site?

Your buddy is a moron. Natively, websites get your IP, the browser you're using, the site you just came from and little else.

Great, I thought so too... just thought I'd confirm. Thanks a lot Yllus.
