You know how people blur theirs out in pics... but you see everyone's plates on the streets... and if you happen to be in a road rage incident... ya know... what can you find out... especially over the Internet ?

IIRC, it depends on the state. In some states, you can (or used to be able to) submit a plate # at the DMV and get the info. It might fall under freedom of information or something like that. It's part of a public record, so at the DMV, you should be able to request the information.

I think depends on what state. Minnesota I know you can. Also, if you have the services, you can get get the info online.

Well if one were to have access to the NCIC they could find out your address(es) & criminal history at the very least.

...and property records, license info, car and boat records, address, phone number (even unlisted), names and numbers of your neighbors, jail bookings, and on and on.

In many states (or if you are just a person with the right hook-up), you could find out that individual's personal info and where they lived from their license plate #.
Most people who post their cars on the net are showing them off, and often include a detailed mod list, so they'd rather not be telling complete strangers just exactly where they can come to steal the car.
