What in Win8 could be blocking my Xoom? It worked once!

Well the Title about says it. I have a Motorola Xoom Tablet. Now the reason I come to Win8 forum is because it (tablet) worked once (wireless transfer) and when I did a factory restore on this fairly new Win8 pc now the problem exists.

THE PROBLEM: I used to be able to connect up wirelessly from the Xoom to the Pc to transfer files with an Android program called FileManager HD. Always worked great, piece o' cake. Then the restore on the Win8 and no dice. Now the Xoom will connect up with other wireless devices, only the Win8 is blocking it.

What in the Win8 could be doing it? I have checked firewall settings, even turned it off and still wouldn't connect up. I never thought, was I supposed to reboot? Anyway, that's the deal. Any ideas why it's hung up on that? The Xoom see's it ... but when trying to transfer files it' balks.

Thanks! Jack ":-D

maybe some of the settings in network and sharing center are off by default? might want to turn on network discovery and file and print sharing and see if it helps

Yes sir. I understand. And all that should be on because other pc's are seeing the Win8 HP and will transfer. It's just for some reason, "now", it won't and it did, successfully for a very long time. I know it's one of those tedious things that I have so over stumbled on. It's hard for techs to see the issue without being here. Everything between 4 wireless devices is acting correctly but this one highway ... from the Xoom on Android to the Win8 PC. The Andriod Xoom likes everybody else on the network and vice versa. The old XP's like the Xoom and the Win8 HP. Just this simple darned problem. It's easily worked around I guess, and should not qualify as a time consumer ... but it irks you when it once worked for a long time, and now it's the only thing that won't.

 Thanks! jack ":-D

Was there software that has to be installed in Windows 8 to do this? Win8 doesn't know what a Xoom is. And a fresh install would blow out any drivers needed.

Thanks QuietDad: From experience with the first time used there was nothing to do but install the app on the Xoom. It just detected the HP Win8 machine and they talked. As long as the ip was correct. And I have checked and rechecked that and the Xoom has the correct IP. The app itself, FileMangerHD takes care of the rest. As mentioned, this worked for a long long time correctly before I did the full factory restore on the Win8 PC. And every other wireless device, event the XP's are compatible with the Xoom app. Got me stumped a bit.

THanks! Jack ":-D
