What in the world is this guy doing? (drag race fail)

Looks like it might have been a bit damp outside, if those rubber band tires are worn, then he's pretty much screwed even with all the skill in the world (which I doubt very much).

If you watch the whole video, car after car has no problem at all. I think that guy just really didn't know how to drive (note the brake lights before he loses control entirely).

He probably thought he could jam the go pedal down and the car would take care of the rest.

My guess, someone showed him how to turn the traction control off (a pretty significant thing for the Challenger as it makes a pretty big difference, remember Hammond unable to do a burnout with it on, and I was told a story about another Challenger owner recently that learned you could turn it off and how much of a difference it makes) which he's never done before, and then mix that with the damp track and him wanting to show off (if you watch, he looks like he's trying to imitate Vin Diesel and has his left arm way up on the steering wheel at the start).

He gets wheelspin off the start, not used to it and it slowly starts to make the car shift direction a bit, he lets off the gas a bit to correct, straightens it out and then mashes the gas again and then, I don't really know how he manages to get so squirrely and out of control at the end as he didn't appear to be going that fast that, what appears to me him actually letting off the gas, would cause it to do that.

Of course drag strips surfaces can be different, and like was said, it looks damp which I'm sure also played a role.

The top gear thing was their little jab at it only being available in an automatic that year. Remember the dialog "It's an automatic". Of course, the automatic can do as much of a burnout as you want it to, but they just wanted to poke fun at the lack of a manual, and that's why they did that little bit.

The video is 8 minutes long with car after car having no traction issues. Unless the pickup before him dumped something all over the road, it's all his ineptitude (which using brakes in a skid situation lends credence to).

What I don't get is how you manage to stay in that awful situation for that long without just letting off. He is spinning from the start.

Anyone saying wet track, please watch a few of the earlier races. No other car has any traction issue at all. The track doesn't appear wet to me.

Looks to me like he's in massive wheelspin the whole way. You can hear the tires chirping as they come down and push him out of control. Same problem there as here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeYsIFmYT6o

It was clearly a wet track. We'd hear screaming tires and see smoke with that much wheelspin on a dry track.

How about Challenger Fail, not Charger. And a GreenWithEnvy edition at that. Title can now read Uploader fail. This was April 14's slick slide from the rain on the track. Races ended at 3:02 PM due to weather. At least it wasn't too bad and only a the corner plastic bumper when he was all done. And the dude's ESC was totally off during that run, making the car uncontrollable.

It's a continuous take, how do you figure that?

That's what the commenter said.

What I'm saying though is that we can see that no rain has fallen between the first run and the last run in that video, as the entire video is one continuous shot.

I don't know that we'd see if it started sprinkling at some point.

I can't believe all that wheelspin is on a dry track though. It sounds very much like wheelspin in the wet.
