One word....Scam

They might call it a GTX 780 but it won't perform like one.

Wholy smokes, how are they getting away with that? Wouldn't EBay protection plan force them to give someone's money back? How would they get away with it?

And from the link,
GEFORCE GTX780 with 2048MB DDR3 RAM
EXCELLENT GRAPHIC CARD.
NEVER USED
IT'S A NVIDIA CHIPSET, IF YOU THINK IT'S A FAKE ONE
SO PLEASE DON'T BID

What a freakn LOL

How will he get away with the scam? Is it a modified bios or something? I don't understand

I have asked the seller to post gpu-z or other benchmarking software screens for fun.
lets see if he is modding the bios or anything. there are many chinese GPUs on ebay. this is not the only one.

Something like that. Changed PCIe ID and it can be anything. However the 600-650Mhz is telling with PCIe 2.0.

All the cards seems to use a GPU from 5-6 years ago.

eBay is basically one big scam. You'd think by now people would know this.

That's not true at all. I've sold a bunch of great video cards (and other stuff) at fair prices to a number of happy buyers, and I've bought quite a bit of good stuff from honest sellers on eBay as well.

To be fair, I have dealt with scammers too, but I've never lost a dime in over 12 years.

I should also mention that in both situations, I sort of knew I was taking a risk.

One was a brand new mac mini from seller that had sold 100s of them with positive feedback, but turned out to be selling them before he actually had them in stock. The price was 'too good to be true', and that turned out being the case... However, after filing a dispute I got all my money back, and eBay closed the seller's account.

The other was a steam key for Fallout 3... Yep, it turned out being a gift purchased with a stolen cc. The seller actually refunded my money on the spot when confronted, but I did have wrestle with Valve a bit to get my Steam account back. I should have (and did) know better, but I got greedy. You can buy game codes on ebay, just make sure they are something like a voucher from AMD Never Settle promo (or NV equivalent), and you'll be fine. Don't buy electronic keys straight up.

Like any sort of marketplace where you can buy used stuff, you have to know the products that you're buying, and you have to use a little bit of common sense.

This.

Sold a ton of GPUs myself on ebay (plus other stuff), and I'm no scammer. :)

Yea I have bought hardware I couldn’t found locally from eBay, from Taiwan to US. You can find scams locally too in every country, ;)
You just need to know what you are looking for and be careful doing transactions in the net.

Because eBay doesn't care. As long as they get their cut, you can do whatever you want.

On a side note, I wonder if they're still rebadging 7300GTs, or if they've upgraded to something that does D3D10.:p

I remember the same stuff over 10 years ago, some SiS VGA with a fake box and stickers being sold as Geforce something...

on the more recent ones, I found some 560, 670, 680 on AliExpress with DDR3 and strange things, checking the bios version from the GPUz screenshots that they had (all specs were wrong) I found that some were GT 220s and things like that... with just the bios edited to give wrong informations...

normally the price is very low, and by the picture and specs listed it's obvious that something is wrong.

I actually think that the sellers intentionally put the wrong specs on these fake cards for the EBay listings. That way people who would be able to tell that it is a flashed version of another card will not even bother to bid. I bet that quite a few people, for example parents buying cards for their kids, have bought these and never even knew they were ripped off.

Ebay is garbage. I sell my old GPUs on FS/T forums and usually deal locally or ship within my country with payment sent via bank transfer before hand. Not worth the hassles of the dirt on ebay always looking for the next scam.

Ebay is not "garbage", some sellers are.

I've bough a few parts on ebay like CPUs, sound cards and more and never had a single problem.
