I have truly tried to look at the world situation from all sides, and I have reached some conclusions.
As I see it.

Iraq:
Iraq in the big and immediate future was a serious potential threat but with years of sanctions had been significantly weakened as an immediate threat.

Iran:
Iran was probably in the development stages of nuclear weapons but IMO they stepped it up after seeing how GWB just invaded Iraq can?t blame them really.

Korea:
After Afghanistan Korea is IMO the biggest threat to world security, however I wonder if they would have kept the status quo if they had not felt threatened by the United States.
I have Korean friends and they DO NOT respond to being ignored and threatened in a positive way I am sure, so this is no way to handle foreign policy. If some but bully threatened me and called me evil and then turned his back and wouldn?t talk you can be sure I wouldn?t just sit there and wait I would get a stick or something and be ready.

Russia:
In the last 2 years I have seen large scale losses of freedom and increased government centralization. Many Russian citizens when asked, prefer this and feel more secure, I have friends in Russia and from Russia, life is hard there with the average Russian making less then 30 bucks a month. rent is not free and food isn?t either.

Europe:
After ww2 the united states was considered the hero of the Europeans, we were fair honest and fairly noble we did help shape the face of Europe.
Now I would hesitate to travel to Europe as my American accent might get my ars kicked. It is safe to say we are not the heroes of the European masses anymore, esp. after the Iraqi prison abuse thing.

The United Nations:
GWB actually tried to bully them and threaten them with ?irrelevance? if they did not comply with his obviously short sighed views on Iraq; he even allowed the large scale France bashing that ensued afterward instead of saying well ok enough is enough. ?Freedom fries? make me want to barf.

Lies lies and more lies:
There have been numerous instances some extreme where the American people have been lied to, Iraq, prison abuse, etc etc.
IMO we are today seen around the world as bigoted Christian purists pushing ourselves and our way of life on everyone weather they want it or not.

Rant complete

Holy cr@p. Yeah, this should be in P&N even without reading it. I think we should have a filter or something to at least WARN the poster when they are posting about politics in OFF TOPIC and not POLITICS and NEWS.

I don't go into P&N because of all the people throwing around opinions formed by watching 2 minutes of CNN adding a gut feeling and a knee jerk...

I believe that you have made a fair assement with the exception of China. China may yet drag us into a shooting war over Taiwan.

The war of adventure in Iraq calls for a new administration less likely to rush off on such a fool's errand.

Yes, having called Iran "evil", demonstrating that we are an aggressor nation, and calling for a new class of tactical nukes (for us) does not put us in a favorable position to ask Iran to abandon its quest for nukes itself. Perhaps a leader with a clean slate could accomplish more.

We've done a lot of saber-ratling with N. Korea, and a lot of weapons placement in S. Korea is being preceived as preperations for war. We have called them "evil" as well and again, our new status as an aggressor nation has not stood us in good stead. In their eyes, this administration has little credability for peaceful negotiations. A new leader here might well be able to put forth a more polished and effective attitude for them to consider.

I have no idea at this point on how to deal with Russia, but I don't think GWB does either.

We have indeed squandered the goodwill and support of Europe and relinquished our position on the moral high ground. Since the current administration is universally viewed as the prime architect of this slide, it is highly unlikely that it can generate a successful effort to regain our previous status.

While the U.N. is certainly not perfect, it always has always been (at least potentially) a significant resourse and ally for our country. The idea of cultivating it as an ally and resourse seems not to have occured to this administration. On the contrary, we have actively tried to marginalize and dismiss it. Bush does not appear to be inclined to mend any fences here either.

Secrecy and lies do not foster trust and credibility at home much either.

Don't worry guys, the new missile defense system will save us... it's up to what, 20% effectiveness?
