Well, I spent $65Can on a new SK6 w/YSTech and a 92mm Adda, in hopes of getting my system temps down.
Running a P3-933@1000 on a CUSL2, I was formerly at 34/28 idle and 45/31 under load. That was with a FOP38 w/YSTech.
Now, with my SK6 and Adda installed, I'm at 34/27 idle, and 46/28 under load. The board temp was to be expected, as the extra case fan helped a little, but the CPU temp is baffling me. I was thinking I'd get a nice 3-4C drop under both conditions on my CPU.
Everything seems to be mounted ok, and I had the proper application of Artic Silver with both heatsinks.
I'm thinking that maybe the SK6 was either hyped a bit much on the net, or that my CPU is as cold as she's gonna get with air cooling.
Would lapping the SK6 help? I lapped the FOP and it didn't seem to help too much. The SK6 seems to have a very fine pattern on the base of the heatsink, so fine that it looks mirror like from a distance, but up real close you can make it out.
Anyone else had similar experiences, of non-impressive "upgrades"?
