Buyer bought an item and paypal'ed me the total + shipping (sans Insurance)

I get an email 10 mins later asking if she could add insurance, no problem i tell her, $1.30 more, and i'll email her the delivery confirmation number after it ships on monday.

She then emails me this
"ok this is the deal, i am a retired postal clerk, i am going to send you extra money, do NOT use delivery confirmation if you are using the postal service, if they misdeliver the delivery confirmation is only scanned to show it was delivered in the zip code so if they deliver it a block away by accident i can't do a thing about it. i will send extra money, please send signature required. please please please! thanks!

So i write back explaining that i always use delivery confirmation since it's free, but i was going to add the insurance she requested as well. I also told her if she wanted signature confirmation, it would be another $1.80 on top of everything.

15 mins pass and i get another paypal payment, for $10.

Along with the payment is this
"hi, could you please ship insured for it, since I have receipts for the same item $299 that is what i paid for the first one 3 yrs ago LOL..... but if you would send it "restricted", "signature" confirmation insured to XXX (about $7.85) they will have to ask for me to sign for it and get my ID. I am sending enough for that plus insurance. This way they will make sure to deliver it to me in good condition because they will not want to pay out that amount to replace the item."

What the hell is going on here?

Just do as she says per the restricted delivery and signature conf. and insure it for whatever it's worth to you (generally shippers will ensure stuff for retail value rather than transacted value [unless transacted value is higher] so that after the long, arduous process of getting your damn money back, you can just go grab another one.

I think she means she bought the same thing 3 years ago for $299 and still has the reciept. I think what she means is to insure it for $299 to scare the mailman into treating the package with care so she gets it in good condition (maybe working there caused her to have concern for the condition of her package?) If they question the insured amount, she has the reciept for justification of that amount.

Although it could easily be used to scam the postal company, so who knows if that's what she means or if she's telling the truth or not. I think your plan to just insure it for the price you sold it for is a good idea.
