... and we're supposed to trade it in tomorrow for a new car ? How do we obtain another ? DMV would have a copy or no ?

damnit according to the NYS DMV site, a duplicate must be US Mailed and will take a week... no express service available.

That could be a stickler. I know in my month on the floor I once had to follow a customer home to get the title for their trade.
 
The dealer should have all the forms you need and will charge you the title fee to get the new one.

It should be no big deal.
 
No biggie. The scumbag, lowlife snake of a car salesman who got you to sign the purchase contract won't let a little thing like legal title get in the way. They know all the tricks. Don't worry, you will drive away in your new car.
