What if we Invade Iraq and find no WMD?

I'm all for getting Saddam (should have been done in '91), but I keep wondering...

Our justification is to disarm Saddam... what if he really is disarmed? What if we invade, search the whole country after occupying it, and find nothing? I sure hope there really is hidden WMD in Iraq and that we find it right after the war, because I'd hate to see world opinion if we find nothing after invading.

Oops!!!

Then we take the oil and run...which we'll do anyway...and Bush will reward Americans and the airlines with free gas for 2 years!

But those would say "made in USA" and those would be the ones we gave them in the 1980's...

That my friend is being a two faced and hipocritical.. yes that's what our country is.

This is probably true.

However, I'd guess it's a pretty safe bet that the Iraqis do have them, given the tone of Hans Blix's speech to the UN:

Unlike South Africa, which decided on its own to eliminate its nuclear weapons and welcomed the inspection as a means of creating confidence in its disarmament, Iraq appears not to have come to a genuine acceptance, not even today, of the disarmament which was demanded of it and which it needs to carry out to win the confidence of the world and to live in peace.

We'll see.

We still have the receipts, we should be able to find them. Look for Made in the USA France England, Russia, etc.

And if we don't we can find the ones we bring, cross of 80% of contents Made in China and put made in the USA.

And don't forget the search will have to be very thorough because Saddam hid the weapons at the bottom of the oil reserve.

So, since when did we say we weren't?
Who do you think we are, the Kingdom of God or something?

There have been a ton of posts like this....all looking at what will happen if we invade Iraq. How about what happens if we DON'T force a regime change in Iraq?

This editorial puts together a pretty good speculative piece on what the world would be like in 2004 if Saddam is still in power.

Doesn't really matter one way or the other...the U.S. will take a PR hit regardless of whether any WMDs are found. As other posters have mentioned, any WMDs the U.S. finds will be labelled as American plants by the rest of the world anyway.

What is all boils down to is the fact that Iraq agreed to disarm back in '91. They were supposed to record what was destroyed, where, when, and how. They haven't proven that it was ever done. You can argue should or shouldn't all you want. The point is that Iraq has not kept up their end of the bargain that brought about the cease-fire in '91.

Come on. I know Saddam is keeping a small nuke under his mattress. Right next to the stack of Iraq Centerfold of the Month.

That's right. Like any crooked cop operates, we can just plant some weapons there and invite the media over to take some photos of them. Or, we could just hire the ex-CFO and accountants from Enron to come up with something, because they're the masters of illusion. :Q

An invasion will not be for the purpose of searching for WMD, that is the purpose of the UN inspectors, not ours. Our invasion will be to depose Hussein.

So from the get-go your question is rooted in a false premise.

They'll find something...even if they have to put it there first.

So if Iraq has nothing, why are they not being cooperative. Blix was not terribly kind to iraq today.

You're right, they must have them because Bush has the receipts.
