What if "they" were Americans?

Just want to make this clear: I'm not asking for a flame war.

I'd really like to know what would happen - and what would you say - if it'd turn out in the end that "they" were (are?) Americans, not Arab terrorists.

That would produce a lot of embarassment, in the light of some recent accusations and outbursts...

What do you think?

Could an American group (i.e. ultra-right?) be responsible?
 
i wouldn't know how to react. but it really doesn't seem like an inside job. but if it was...i would still be very pissed.

With all that they've found, including an Arabic flying manual, it's not Americans that did this.

Anyway, if it were, they would essentially have the same fate as Timothy McVeigh
 
To be honest, even though the knee-jerk response is (usually) "an arab did it", if/when it would be discovered it was an american they would feel the wrath of the people ten-fold.
 
If they were Americans, they should get the same punishment that Osmar Bin Laden would get. But see, Americans don't kill themselves for their causes. They have too much pride, they want to see their handywork. So this was not American.

yeah, but I think that the people who planned this are going to be pretty screwed, regardless of what race they are

They very well could be. The two that are reported to have entered the U.S. from Canada are obviously from Arab descent but they may very well have been carrying Canadian passports and been citizens. It's unfortunate and I'm ashamed but I think it's very possible that this scenario is true.
