The rich will keep doing what make them rich. The poor will keep doing what makes them poor.

Not necessarily... I believe there are a lot of educated poor people who are poor becasue of a lack or opportunities, not because of a lazy effort.

In Soviet Russia Opportunity finds you, but in Capitalist United States, you create your own opportunities.

which reinforces the premise that those born with the silverspoon have more oppertunity to make their own opportunity.

age old saying goes... yuo cant make something out of nothing. if you have nothing to start with... you must borrow.

The overwhelming majority of successful Americans are self made. A very few inherit their livelihoods. Most inheritences are squandered.

And yes, you CAN make something out of nothing. We have a great banking system and this currency system called "fiat." Basically money is created out of thin air (quite literally). You think those Google guys had millions of dollars on hand to start that company? All they had was a really good idea. If you have an idea that can generate profit, money will come to you.

Just because silver spooners have more opportunity, doesn't mean you can't succeed.

if the creaters of google were to run a 7/11, it would be the most efficient 7/11 in the world.

Maybe not, but they'd sure know where everything was.

Just gone done reading 1984. Here is my question: if by some magical twist of fate the upper class and lower class were to switch positions (e.g. a welfare family now owned Google, and the original owners now worked at a 7-11 to get by) would the lower class rise again?

Essentially what I am asking is this: is the middle/upper class there (ignoring outliers, like the Rockafellers) because of hard work, dedication and drive, or is it all a crap shoot?

See Eddie Murphy movie titled "Trading Places"

Many would. A few upper class people would stay at the bottom and a few lower class people would stay on the top.
Yep. With the exception of inheritence and luck, the US economy is a meritocracy. Just look at the 10 richest people in America -- 6 of them never even finished college.

But to overgeneralize in this case would not be proper. Those who previously were rich through no credit of their own would stay poor. OTOH, those who previously were poor solely because they were never given opportunity would remain rich. The self-made and self-defeating, however, would revert back to where they started.

just a hunch, but I would bet the rich wouldn't even want to work at low jobs and will get no money at all, and the poor that are now at the top wouldn't be able to hold on to business. Every1 will get poorer in the end if this situation was to happen

That might be true for those who inherited their wealth, but every self-made wealthy person I've ever met (quite a few) started out at the bottom working menial jobs. Construction, landscaping, bagging groceries, door-to-door sales, etc.
