What if the U.S. Senate was elected in proportion to voter income? Or by age?

.....

Did I say it was supposed to be proportionate and democratic? No, I said that it IS inherently undemocratic because it's disproportionate. I would love to take it up with George Washington or James Madison, but they're dead. If you can build a time machine let me know.

BTW, also if you have a time machine, go about 30 years in the future. You'll see that more liberals have continued to move to sparsely populated Western states and tilted them over to the Democrat side, leading to a senate dominated by Democrats.

BTW, take your time machine ahead a couple months and see your Democrats get butt fucked in the elections due to the ineptness of Obama, his administration, and congress as a whole.

Goodbye house of representatives!

Throckmorton, you obviously have no understanding why the Senate was designed the way it was. You act as if you've thought of something that Madison, Jefferson, and the other founding fathers would never have thought about or mentioned. As others have said, it was designed to give states equal say; however, there is more to it. Read this summary:

http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/uscongress/a/whyhouseandsenate.htm

By your logic or the logic of the article discussed in the OP, why even bother with a Senate?

no matter how you organize goverment. Inevitably it is always doomed to fialure becuase human being are annoying creatures that are selfish. we are fucked before it begins and when we have a revolution we get a few generations of idealism then its back to bussiness as usuall. So either way. We are fucked becuase humans suck.

The Bill of Rights prevent such things from occurring. But, nice straw-man argument....

LOL. Silly American thinks he still has rights. Second amendment of your constitution says militia (ie every able bodied man) are allowed to keep guns. That right has been completely destroyed.

Remember that thing called the 4th Amendment where police are not allowed to search or seize your property unless they had a warrant or probable cause? Wiretapping without a warrant = fourth amendment no longer exists.

Sixth amendment of your constitution says people have a right to a trial. That too no longer applies. I can't remember what Bush called it, but Obama called it "prolonged detention". You can see a video of Rachel Maddow ripping Obama a new ass hole for it here.

The eighth amendment against cruel punishment also says it's illegal to have unreasonable fines as well as unreasonably expensive bail, although bail can be denied if the crime is serious (ie murder). Sheriff Joe violates this one all the time by putting people out in the hot Arizona sun all day even though they're in jail for something very mundane like smoking a joint. Unreasonable bail happens all the time when lower or lower-middle class people have bail set at $10,000-$20,000 which is an amount so high that the person can't possibly get out on bail.

In short, you can't rely on your constitution. It has no power at all and people ignore it whenever they want. The only way to protect people is to give them a voice and let them have voting power.

What they ought to do is get rid of the standing army, abolish compulsory taxation, the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the House of Representatives and give each state one senator, elected by that state and make DC a state. Then they should specify that there must be an odd number of states and that if local areas can only secede from states 2 at a time.
