I've long thought that the existence of "ghosts" could be a weird physics quirk(different universe?), and not dead people. That's why I keep up some interest. Something like that doesn't require magic, though I suppose it sort of is. Quantum physics is kind of like magic. There's sure to be other weird shit out there. We just have to find it.
That's been my favorite personal theory as well - it's some fluke of parallel universes within the omniverse and how they are linked to one another through some property of the entire multi-dimensional construct of the universes.
And the existence of the latter, at least, also leads to black holes that link to white holes (or at least another black hole that can act as a white hole for the black hole at the other end of the tunnel), and again parallel dimensions, and also the idea that M-theory is in fact our reality.
What-ifs - I love them. Scientific what-ifs fill my personal spirituality requirements. They make me happy, give me something to long for, with a shred of possibility of discovery (of anything) within my lifetime.
