What if SP2 bakes my system? Can I save it w\o reinstalling?

On my other system SP1 gave me the INOPERABLE_BOOT_SERVICE_DEVICE_ERROR and there was no cure. I have all new equipment in this system and the brands are different as well. If I update to SP2 and it doesnt take can I use the "Last known config" option to revert back to the old one? It would really be a pain to have to reinstall everything. During the install of the sp, it will give you an option to back up the current configuration, make a mark in that checkbox.

if you can back up your info...that'll be good....save the info and most important your registry.

Ghost the drive, make a backup of all important data and install SP2.
