What if Socket-A 133fsb is real?

Perhaps the difference between a 100fsb and a 133fsb AMD Socket-A processor is a simple pinout? AMD hasn't released many details on the next round of processors, but we can all imagine the 1.2gHz processor will not be on the 100fsb.

Don't worry, when I say 100fsb we're talking the core syncronized to the memory. I realize the EV6 bus is a 200fsb when it comes to writes, but to me its still a 100fsb when it deals with reads.

Ok MadRat I'll bite. I believe that the KT133 chipset is capable of 133 (DDR) FSB. I think the limiting factor is the actual cpu chips. Some people have been able to reach about 118 or a little higher.

But you think that if we knocked back the multiplier a little we would be able to reach 133MHZ or better on the AMD760?

No, no chipset is capable of anything but 100mhz bus at the moment. Some OVERCLOCK to levels such as 105, 110... Even up to 120 in RARE cases, but none are actully capable. A processor knows not what FSB it is being run at. The AMD760 will allow us to take the 100mhz bus Durons and Tbirds and overclock them to 133bus, as long as it does not push the CPU clock level too high.

Actually, on the AMD760 wouldn't it be true you couldn't overclock any
FSB at all because the FSB has to be synronized with the RAM?

It is definetly not the chips that are not capable of 133Mhz bus. I believe it is in Japan that they are midifying something (crystal?) on their motherboards to allow them to attain bus speeds of up to 150Mhz in some cases.

I've seen those ultra-high fsb's and its normally a clock replacement coupled to exotic supercooling. Its reminiscent of the days of overclocking the 8086!

Seriously though, what if there were AGP and PCI dividers hidden in the 750 and KT133 chipsets and we simply didn't know about them! Its not like we knew about the P!!!-B's pin trick until after the fact.

Sephiroth_IX, actually with a good fan on the Northbridge, and good cooling on one other chip, the current Via chipsets can hit much higher (133mhz) FSB.

I don't know why people keep asking questions on this topic.. it's been repeated over and over.

anywho, you DON'T needs supercooling to get the fsb that high.

back on topic, Madrat, it's possible, but there's nothing you can do but speculate, so it's pretty much pointless..
