What if...post count wasn't listed?

If only the admins/mods could see a user's post count...what effect do you think it would have on the forums?

I'll take a wild guess. Less neffing and the pages would load .025 seconds faster?

Yeah, less neffing, reducing the number of postcount-centric fools who waste the forum's bandwidth. I can hardly believe the amount of people whose sole purpose here is having more posts
than the other guy, or increasing their 'user status'. I feel that postcounts are even more irrelevant to a member's worth than the postcount-derived 'user status', and it just encourages worthless
posting. m2c.

I and many others agree with you but it's not going to change. These kids need something to do while their clearasil is drying.

I'm not going to get personal. You've been here long enough to know what's up.

Post count never used to be this easy to see (as I'm sure you know). You always had to mouse-over the avatar to see it. Still, the user levels drove people to neffing. You strip out the post count numbers, there is going to be MASSIVE complaining.

I, for one, wouldn't have any problem with not seeing a particular post count, so long as I had ways to gauge how long a user had been active (particularly useful in the FS/FT forum)? Give folks less reason to throw in a frivilous, let alone moronic, post and the less likely they are to do it.

<-- Couldn't care less one way or another. ;)

Id like to see less posts that quote something someone else has said without adding anything. Its annoying to see a dozen posts with no information and just a bunch of postcount++ers quoting someone.

It wouldn't change how I look at it.

I pay to use this bandwidth as I see fit inside the scope of the rules.

yakko, you seem to be taking it a little personal. Why? Is this

<< << Yeah, less neffing, reducing the number of postcount-centric fools who waste the forum's bandwidth. >> >>

you?

I find it kinda weird that the powers-that-be are having troubles with affording bandwidth (even to the point of having to cap it), yet condone the kind of behavior that this thread addresses.

I'm all for eliminating/hiding post counts.

I could care less if it was shown or not. I stopped caring about post count a long time ago.

They could keep the post count and move it under user profiles. That way if you really wanted to see it you could. It wouldnt be right under your name so everyone wouldn't be so intrigued to nef all the time.

Hahah, true. I've actually had people say I should ship first even though I had waaay more heatware but they had more posts, the count is irrelavent.

I pay to use this bandwidth as I see fit inside the scope of the rules.

It's time to change the rules. The nefs are going to ruin these forums.

What is the attraction of just increasing your post count besides annoying all of the other members of the board. Yes, you have the "right" to do so if you wish under the current rules. But then anyone has the right to be an asshole also.

Self centered teens that think just because they want to do something than by God it is their right to do it tend to tick me off.

the world is full of diversity and i can live with that
i help pay for the bandwidth too
me i like having a post count its like a ruler to measure my time here
most sites i go to i get maybe 10 posts a month
here i find lots to share and talk about
<---loves computers lol

so i hope it stays simply to remind me why i visit and why i post here more than anywhere else

hope this helps

I imagine he's talking about the lack of bandwidth and the Nef's using a lot of it.

I think it is too late already. The forums have become a place where it is more important how many times you say nothing as compared to the content of what you say. The short one line put down has become the norm.

Posting "whoot" or just a smiley face is normal in threads. That can only be for one reason, the person wants to up his post count. It doesn't contribute to the thread in any way at all.
When you are following a thread it is disapointing to open it only to find another nef has barfed another smilely face or ++postcount out just for the hell of it.

When someone asks for help, what good does it do to post "I'm sure someone can help you"?

All the nefs are doing is cluttering up the threads, disrupting the flow of the threads and turning AT forums into a laughingstock of the web.

It's much more than just a bandwidth issue, it's more about respect or the complete lack of it by those members for everyone else. It's about them disrupting the flow of the threads. It's about them making it difficult to hold good discussions anymore. The forums are starting to look like an AOL chatroom with one line replies by everyone just trying to make a better put down.

It's sad when you consider what the forums once were and what they could be that the people that just want to up their post count for whatever reason are responsible for this and they don't care. I don't see any recovery though. The forums have been taken over by the nefs and that sort of post has become the norm.
