What if I don't remember who sent me a private message?

Do I have to search the alphabet one letter at a time?

Also, once I view a private message and click "done" the only way I see to return to the forum is by hitting the back button. The problem is that the "you have new private message" reappears. So the only way to know if it's a new pm is to back out of the forum and then re-enter.

Is this the only way to do this? Sorry if I've missed something obvious.
