Hi all,

Im not sure if you can see my signature. But here is my specs.

2500k@4.7

8gb ddr3 1600

BFG GTX580 1.5gb voltage tweak edition.

27" Korean 2560*1440 Display

Corsair HX620PSU

Now im getting around 30-40fps in BF3 with all settings maxed. My question is,

If i were to get another GTX580 and run SLI, would that improve my frames in bf3 and other similar recent games?

Is it worth SLI? And does it need to be exact same card or just another gtx580 from a different vendor will do just fine?

And last but not least, will my psu stand up to it?

Ive put this stellar psu thru a lot in the past 5yrs including my first sli back in the days of nvidia 8800gt's hehehe. So far its been rock solid at everything ive thrown at it.

Thank you for your feedback....

Alejandro.

Any of the 1.5gb variants of the GTX 580 will work for SLI, I wouldn't add another 580 unless you got a stellar deal on it, <220 dollars USD. I think with that monitor you are most likely using more VRAM than a 1.5gb card can hand if you use a lot of AA. I would most likely just hold out and grab a 670 with a 680 pcb and over clock it once the new cards come out next year and the price drops on this generation. The 580 is still a stud and if you lower the AA you should still see FPS in the 50s or 60s.

I would not do GTX 580 SLI with a HX620. Seeing as you're on 2560x1440, the 1.5GB VRAM would also be limiting.

I can understand why you'd want to upgrade... I would recommend either:
1. single 7970 GHz edition
2. new 750W power supply and 7950 3GB Crossfire

i have to stick with nvidia as it is the preferred card for flight simulator. im thinking of an ocz z-series 850w gold certified psu. its on for 99.99 minus a 30mir. 69.99 at the end(minus the tax difference which aint much). i just got bit by the (upgrade) bug. and i dont want to do a full upgrade until the gtx700 series come out. then i can see whats best. if by that point the ati's are better value/performance then i will make the switch to ati/amd again. i used to own a 6950 which i unlocked to 6970. but got into flight sim again. hence the nvidia. anyways, i was just seing ppl sell used 580s for ~200 so i was wondering what itd do for me.
thx

well a GOOD 900++watt psu for sure for 580sli

my 580sli run nice at 900 mz [can run @ 940 7\24 but on water]so when you look at any canned benches that most posters will be going by or posting, that include 580sli -- add 17%.

-so to compare a 680 which auto overclocks in benches to a stock 580 add 17% then add 60-80% sli scaling to compare.
-one gtx 680 will be how much slower 20-40%??? vs 580sli @ 900.

-I'm at 2560x1440 and don't even use my oc profile in msi-ab -no need to.
-in bf3 when I played it ,max. everything but msaa [looked better off btw] well over 60fps and that was on a x58 +920@4.1.

-pit falls of 580sli

-lots of power\heat to run
-maxing the vram in some future game settings
-no love on the net from people that never owned 1 or 2 of them.

No, just no. A nice 750w will be plenty to OC.
